Spring break is a time to enjoy a break from our busy lives and to enjoy the newly warm weather. You’re probably excited to have a relaxing and wonderful spring break! Our orthodontist, Dr. Ara Goshgarian, would like to help you have the successful spring break you desire by encouraging you to take good care of your aligners. Even though you have a break from school doesn’t mean you should take a break from caring for your orthodontic aligners. So, to have a good spring break with your aligners, he encourages you to do the following things:

-Pack your oral hygiene kit: This can make it possible to clean your smile and appliance often, which is necessary to stay on track toward your smile goals. Your oral hygiene kit should include your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash and tools to clean your aligner.

-Clean your smile regularly: Make sure to brush twice a day, floss once a day and rinse your mouth with mouthwash daily. This can help you prevent dental issues while you’re on spring break. If you don’t clean your teeth and gums often, like after each time you eat or drink something, then bacteria, sugar and other harmful substances can become trapped under the aligner and damage your smile.

-Take your aligner out of your mouth before eating: This is important because eating or chewing gum with the aligner in your mouth can damage the appliance. When it’s damaged, it won’t be able to properly align the smile and it will be more noticeable to those around you.
